Income-qualified California residents can save up to $8,000 with HVAC rebates through TECH Clean California, HEEHRA and SMUD, making energy-efficient upgrades more affordable. Eligible upgrades include heat pumps for both heating and cooling, with additional incentives for switching from gas to electric systems.

Statewide Rebate
Save $1,000 per unit on eligible heat pumps, both ducted (central air, HVAC) and ductless (mini-split), with our HVAC rebate program.
Up to two incentivized systems per home can qualify for a total rebate of $2,000. This program is available for retrofit projects where non-heat pump systems are upgraded to heat pump systems.
All equipment must meet Title 24 code minimum standards and be AHRI matched. This HVAC rebate is available only through TECH-enrolled contractors and applies to single-family homes.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District Rebate
SMUD offers up to $3,000 in HVAC rebates on energy-efficient heat pump heating and cooling systems installed by RK Mechanical Air Services, a qualifying contractor. Eligible rebates include:
- Variable-stage heat pump system (gas to electric): $3,000
- Two-stage package heat pump (15 SEER2 minimum) HVAC system (gas to electric): $1,000
- Go Electric Bonus/Panel upgrade: $2,000

Income-qualified California residents can receive an HVAC rebate through TECH Clean California of up to $8,000, depending on household income.
Homeowners are eligible for rebates if the household income is at or below 150 percent of the area median income (AMI). For owners of single-family homes, eligible equipment includes two-speed or variable speed ENERGY STAR® certified heat pumps for air heating and cooling.
This HVAC rebate helps make energy-efficient upgrades more affordable and accessible, ensuring that residents can enhance their home comfort and efficiency while saving money.
Federal Tax Credit -30% of the costs up to $2k
Save up to $2,000 – Federal Tax Credit on Heat Pumps, Ducted (central air, HVAC), Heat Pumps, Ductless (mini-split) Projects
Tax credits lower the taxes you owe, unlike rebates that provide immediate deductions. For the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit, claim it when filing your federal tax return for the year you made upgrades.
For 2023 upgrades, file with IRS Form 5695 in 2024. Save all receipts and consult a tax professional for accuracy.
